#WeAnimate Day 2023

On June 3rd WeAnimate will be celebrating the WeAnimate Day at the Film School in Copenhagen.

This year’s program offers unique insights into everything from creating a massive non-linear Netflix experience to pursuing your indie projects to next-level world-building.

WeAnimate Day will inspire all members of the animation and interactive communities, so make sure to mark your calendars for this exciting event.

Rikke Asbjørn

Chris Garbutt

Keynote

“We Lost Our Human”

We kick things off this year with a keynote from Rikke Asbjørn and Chris Garbutt, the writer/director team behind Pinky Malinky and Netflix’s groundbreaking We Lost Our Human. Premiering in March 2023, We Lost Our Human is the largest interactive special to date on Netflix, and an exciting step forward in non-linear streaming entertainment.

Rikke Asbjørn and Chris Garbutt will share exclusive behind-the-scenes insight into the production of We Lost Our Human, discussing the specific methods and challenges in creating a story with billions of possible permutations.

Simon Jon Andreasen

Masterclass:

World building

WeAnimate Day attendees will also be treated to a world-building Masterclass by award-winning director, researcher, and educator Simon Jon Andreasen. Known for his work in early experimental games like Globetrotter and Blackout, he has continued to pioneer new frontiers in animation, games, and digital experiences.

Through his years of working and teaching in games and animation, Simon has developed a completely new approach to worldbuilding. This fall, he will publish a new handbook on worldbuilding, and this masterclass includes a sneak peek from the book, along with expert insights and concrete tools to use in creating your own universe

Mads Vadholt

Exclusive presentation:

The Forest Quartet

The event also includes an exclusive presentation from Mads Vadholt about the creation of his indie game The Forest Quartet. A 3-act puzzle adventure game, The Forest Quartet was released in December 2022 and has won rave reviews from The Guardian, The Indie Informer, and others, while winning the Excellence in Audio award from the Independent Games Festival.

Mads will share his process and insights as an indie game developer, animator, and composer, and his experiences working on a passion project.

Snobar Avani

“Dream” by Snobar Avani

Screening:

Dream

This year’s WeAnimate Day also includes a screening of the animated short film “Dream” by Snobar Avani. This beautiful film is based on Snobar’s own experiences as a child fleeing to Denmark from turbulence in Kurdistan, and shares unique insight on how war can affect children.
