It’s time once again for Cartoon Forum, the annual event where animated TV projects are pitched to an audience of buyers. Every year, European broadcasters, distributors, media investors, and various co-producers attend, in order to find the next generation of animated television shows. To date, Cartoon Forum has connected 997 animated television projects with financing, amounting to over 3.6 billion euros.

Danish Projects at 2024 Cartoon Forum

Every year Danish animation producers assemble at Cartoon Forum to showcase their new projects and connect with supporters and production partners. Appearing this year are the new shows:

Kitty Poo

Produced by A. Film
Directed by Karsten Kiilerich

Kitty Poo is based on the hugely successful comic series Møgmis, published internationally as Shitty Kitty, by Danish author Sophie Souid. Kitty Poo follows the adventures of a domestic cat who is tired of being a scapegoat, and decides to go to war with its owner. Assembling a rag-tag group of neighborhood animals, including a dog, a competitive snail, and a dead mouse, the team seek revenge against the humans who have taken them for granted for so long.

The animated series will keep the same distinctive visual style as the comic, illustrated by Thomas Hjorthaab, and is aimed at children between 6-9 years of age.

Scheduled for pitching on Tuesday September 17th 12.15 in the Blue Room

Steel Hearts

Produced by EyeCandyFilm, along with Croatian Poster and Slovenian Invida
Directed by Stefan Fjeldmark

Steel Hearts is an adaptation of the award-winning Den Rustne Verden, by Adam O. In this post-apocalyptic series, four kids from the safe haven of Greenland in 2075 undertake an adventure into the wild jungle of future Denmark. The story balances energy and positivity with the realities of climate change and social justice, and takes place in a fascinating world of ecological wilderness and futuristic technology.

The show is written by Pernille Bønløkke Toustrup, herself an accomplished author, and is aimed at children between 6-9 years of age.

Scheduled for pitching on Wednesday September 19th 12.30 in the Purple Room

The Hippo Kids

Produced by New Creations
Directed by Pernille Bønløkke Toustrup and Mikael Wulff

In The Hippo Kids, three young hippos are surprised when their uncle, a cantankerous ninja, moves into the family household to help look after them. Despite his fascination with old action movies and lack of childcare experience, Uncle Dolph takes his responsibility seriously, and the kids have to adjust to the new dynamic as they have new adventures, and find new ways to learn and connect.

This humorous 2D animated show is aimed at kids from 9-11 years of age.

Scheduled for pitching on Wednesday September 18th 15.00 in the Purple Room

Pig & Andersen

Produced by Fleng Entertainment

Pig & Andersen is a new TV series based on the 2022 short film The Swineherd. In this 3D animated show, a pack of playful pigs explore the world of Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tales, revisiting familiar characters and beloved stories in a whole new way.

In 2023, Pig & Andersen was selected from over 70 projects to be part of a unique pilot program in which 15 public broadcasters representing the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) have joined together to support the development of an animated project. This pilot program showcases the benefits of collective financing and the broadcasters’ commitment to using animation to engage with young audiences.

The EBU projects from 2023 will present their latest development on Thursday from 14.45 – 15.30 in the Blue Room.

WeAnimate wishes good luck and success to all the projects pitched at this year’s Cartoon Forum, and we look forward to seeing these projects on our screens in the coming years.
